* Italian Cuisine *
BELLA ROSA – PADMA HOTEL, LEGIAN
A relatively new restaurant at the well-known Bali Padma Hotel,
with contemporary design and situated close to the beach. There
is a wood-fired pizza oven and you should try the speciality,
‘Pizza of the Gods’. There are also some very good
pastas and excellent appetisers and desserts. Well worth a visit.
FABIO’S – SEMINYAK
The setting is outstanding and décor is exceptional but
the Italian style food is of average quality and a little over-priced.
Fabio’s is popular with bus-loads of tourists from Taiwan
and Korea, who eat so fast that they don’t notice the taste,
and they are usually all gone by 7 pm so plan to go late and have
a relaxing eveing there. You will certainly enjoy the surroundings.
This long-established Italian restaurant is currently in the throes
of being refurbished and the theme is ‘Roman Empire’.
The menu is also due for a make-over and some may say this is
over-due. It seems to be moving up-market so let’s watch
the space!
MACCAARONI CLUB – KUTA
This is the place for Italian food in a contemporary style building
with a Milanese concept and a Balinese format. The restaurant
suffered damage from the bombing in 2002 and has re-emerged even
better than before. With an ideal location in Jalan Legian, an
Italian chef and manager and excellent food, you can’t go
wrong here. As a bonus, any custumer can have 25 minute free Internet
surfing and if you feel the need, try a 15 minute session at the
Oxygen bar!
PAPA’S CAFÉ – KUTA BEACH
With authentic Italian cuisine and a lively atmosphere, combined
with a superb location in alan Pantai Kuta, Papa’s Café
is an ideal place to enjoy a relaxing lunch and a spot of ‘people-watching’.
There are some very good steaks available plus seafood and excellent
pizzas. Papa’s Café is also a fun place to spend
an evening when you will have the benefit of the refreshing breezes
from Kuta Beach.
PUNTO & BASTA – SEMINYAK
Yet another of the myriad restaurants in Jalan Laksmana but it
seems to be the only one on the left hand side of the road. Essentially
Italian with some very tempting menu items at sensible prices,
it is also air-conditioned and this is a major plus factor. There
are some great salads and, of course, pasta but the desserts are
all highly recommeded, Service is often rather slow but the food
is worth waiting for!
SALSA VERDE – AT THE GRAND HYATT, NUSADUA
The grand Hyatt’s casual beach-front restaurant offers
tasty Italian food and very good service. They also have a wide
range of good quality wines to compliment your meal in this very
relaxing setting; expensive but luxurious.
TRATTORIA – SEMINYAK
Trattoria seemed to take off from the first day it opened in
December 2002 and has been packing in the guests ever since. The
food is basic, simple and healthy Italian but made with the best
quality ingredients. All meat and fish is imported and their pasta
is home-made; a lively atmosphere, friendly and efficient staff
and excellent food.
MASSIMO – IL RISTORANTE – SANUR
Italian restaurants are plentiful in Bali but this new one is
different. There are some unusual menu items from the chef/owner’s
home town of Lecce in the south-west of Italy such as ’Sagne
Ncannulate cu illa Recotta Sane’ , a special size of home-made
fettucine with tomato sauce and spicy ricotta cheese, and ‘Mbrigghiatieddhi
de carne e Prummitori’ , which is a roll of beef fillet
with ham, Parmesan and pecorino. Eat inside or outside and enjoy
the vibrant ambience, great food and attentive service.
LA LUCCIOLA - PETITENGET
Probably one of the first of many trendy beach-front restaurants,
La Lucciola has been popular for many years. It now has an air-conditioned
room for up to 40 people and this is something that appears to
be a growing trend in Bali’s humid climate. With rice food
and elegant staff, it will surely continue to draw the crowds.
It is open for lunch and dinner
SAMI SAMI – AT THE RITZ-CARLTON
This is a casual restaurant and bar, located on a bluff overlooking
the indian Ocean, and featuring Italian cuisine, accompanied by
goblets of secret-recipe Sangria. The new Lunch and Dinner menus
feature dishes from a selection of Antipasti, Soups, Sandwiches,
Wood Fire Oven Baked Pizza and Rosotti, individual Fish and Meat
sections and a good array of Main Courses. The presentation and
service are wonderful. |
