Note:
There are a few points in which you need to remember:
1. When renting a car, make sure that the car have STNK = Surat
Tanda Nomor Kendaraan - and check whether it is still valid and
of course whether the plate number matched the STNK. STNK is registration
number and every car MUST have this STNK or otherwise they are
stolen/illegal. DO NOT deals with illegal matters since Indonesian
police systems are very corrupted and they love dealing with tourist
since you will end up paying them. Please make sure they are all
fully registered.
Note that Rental Companies are (so far that we know) regulated
by a strict regulations so they surely will give you all necessary
documents needed upon rentals.
2. DO NOT carry your car outside the island's border. If you
are renting a car with Balinese plate, only have them in the island.
The car rental would not allow you to carry it outside the island
and if there happens to be an accident, you will have to replace
the car without insurance cover (since you are not allowed to
take it outside the island).
This as well to reduce car theft since the car rental company
will give you all the documents available and you can basically
steal the car with complete registrations provided.
3. When hiring motorbike make sure that you got the helmet since
helmet is compulsory in Bali for everyone riding on the bike.
4. Check your vehicle for damages prior to rental.
