Alas Kedaton Temple, Tabanan Regency, Bali

One of the most famous monkey forest in Bali. It's one of the place in Bali where monkeys exist, free and peacefully. These hundreds of monkeys are a real appeal for the tourists.

The monkeys living here are considered sacred, an association from the Ramayana epic, wherein Prince Rama allied himself with the monkey hero Hanuman to attack Alengka, the kingdom of the giants.

Alas Kedaton is a small forest measuring about 12,00 ha. There is an old temple and to the south East of the temple is small field called the Monkey Cemetery but so far, the truth of the story has never been confirmed. There are hundreds of monkeys in this forest and high up on the big trees many bats (called Kalong, with their wings spread emasuring up to 1 metre length) are hanging and singing with their loud voices.

Tourists are allowed to feed the monkey with the food available for sale (a pocket of nuts are about Rp. 1000 or around 12c US$. To compare to other monkey forest of Sangeh, the primates here are better 'behave' nonetheless always put extra caution in feeding the monkey or let your tour guide to do so.

Be careful when feeding them

Be extra careful when feeding the monkey. They do looks so innocent but they will bite when feeling insecure.
Can you spot the monkey?
