The Taman Ayun Temple,
Badung Regency, Bali
Nonetheless, we took off around 8.30 am. We first
went to Taman Ayun, a historical garden of the former Kingdom
of Mengwi. Mengwi principality was, until 1891, the centre of
powerful Kingdom dating grom the Gelgel dynasty. Pura Taman Ayun,
founded in the 17th century has a surrounding moat, giving the
impression of garden sanctuary, explaining the name ot Taman or
garden. The temple is a penyawangan or a place to worship
other sacred sites. Here are shrines to Bali's mountain peaks
of Agung, Batukaru, Batur and Pengelengan, as well as many other
great temples worshipped.
